Cwm Harry Land Trust CSA SchemeThe Aims of our CSA

  • To support local growers by sharing the risks and benefits of farming with them
  • To provide greater access to fresh, locally grown vegetables and fruit
  • To encourage innovative cookery and preserving of surplus
  • To help our environment by reducing waste, cutting food miles and practising environmentally friendly agriculture

At Cwm Harry we grow fruit and vegetables on several local sites with the help of volunteer gardeners. These vegetables and fruit are sold through a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) scheme. The CSA works by selling "shares" in our harvest to local people. This means members develop a direct relationship with the farms that produce their food, lending them greater understanding of the seasons, the weather and their local area in general. With this investment at the beginning of each season, the CSA is able to plant according to the number of members and their preferences in vegetable and fruit. We find this system works well for both producers and consumers – who are often the same people since many members volunteer to help grow the veg. The CSA works by selling shares in our harvest to local people, who receive a weekly veg box for 36 weeks of the year (see downloads below for more information):
