Cwm Harry - Growing Food Locally

Erw Edwards, Edward's Acre, Llanmerewig

The Edwards family started a market garden in 2007, growing vegetables to organic principles. We had previously been growing fruit and vegetables for our personal use and Cwm Harry encouraged us to take our ideas and experience further.

We work on a raised-bed system on one acre of land and are members of the Wholesome Food Association and Powys Growers Group. We have been supplying vegetables to Cwm Harry since we began our enterprise and will be trialling Cwm Harry compost in the future.

We grow all types of seasonal produce from broad beans, onions and new potatoes in the spring through to winter cabbages, leeks and Brussel sprouts. Over the past two years, Cwm Harry boxes have also seen the inclusion of our peas, runner and French beans, carrots, parsnips, kale, cauliflower, swede, turnip, pumpkins and squashes to name but a few!

We also enjoy experimenting with different varieties of vegetables and the Cwm Harry boxes have included some of our more unusual produce such as purple-podded peas, white beetroot, red Brussels and both green and purple varieties of cauliflower.

Our future plans include increasing the area we farm; using a poly tunnel to allow us to grow some of our crops earlier in the season and expanding into fruit production.
